Anyone around Dublin has a cheapo set of aerobars with 31.8 mount I could use this weekend? Nothing fancy I wouldn't be able to replace just in case :)

I'm riding a long route (800km/3days) and I thought I may give them a try.

Does it take long to get used to riding in this position?

Can't help on the bars but where is this 800km cycle?

One of the more experienced Audax lads uses them but he is the only person I've seen with them. Are you hauling a load to?

I'm using mine on Thursday for a TT but you can have them after that. They are the short Profile ones.

Dublin>Cork>Castlebar>Dublin on my own. A perfect triangle (of suffering) :)

What time does it finish and how long it will take until you can hold a conversation again after this? :D

Put up the route and if I see any sections that are dangerous that I know of I'll suggest an alternative if I can

There are some hateful sections of road if you intend cycling that route the way you might drive it.

Mallow- Limerick, Gort- Oranmore, Galway-Headford off the top of my head. With a bit of thought easy enough to work around them

Very roughly (haven't analysed it yet in details), but the plan is to keep it geometric:

25 mile TT. I really really really hate TTs. Finish time depends on what time I get there and sign on. Hopefully off early enough so I can suffer the usual humiliation of being passed by hordes of better riders.

I could meet you Friday and give you the bars then? They might be a bit stubby for you though - you are a good bit taller than me.

Nice route from Dublin to Cahir, @Seweryn would be the man to ask on the KK, Tipperary area but looks good to me.

Cork Mallow is good but it then leaves you on N20 to Limerick. I wouldn't cycle that road. You need to cross Blackwater so either Killavullen or Banteer? Cork Killavullen is nice if lumpy and you'll figure out a route probably via Kilmallock from there(I'll pm you Kilmallock Cork which I did by headwind for navigation in October ish)

Nice route through Clare I've cycled that pre strava and it's quite. Again Gort Oranmore isn't pleasant(section with no hard shoulder on a busy road, no motorway from Gort)

Ford - thanks for this! I'll review my route later on and re-post the link then.
    Strava Challenge or Diagonales ?

    Wow, didn't know about Diagonales!

I guess I can think of it as Petite diagonale de l'Irlande ! :D

Rathcoole bit too far for a casual cycle ;) but I may be interested in yours, Raam, if Peter won't find his.

Picked up the bars from PeterX.

    Thanks PeterX!

Installed on the bike on my lunch break. Tried a few loops around the industrial estate - felt ok. Not too much change in position compared to drops, but I understand now how they help with tired upper body on a long ride.

Commute home via Phoenix Park: disaster. Totally insecure feeling, after a few tries I started to fear even minor potholes, nevermind ramps and so on. I can't even put much power into pedals without feeling the bike doing some strange things under me.

But cars... Its not even about braking in traffic, its easy to quickly switch one hand to hoods and apply brakes. Its my reactions. I tend to turn / react quite assertively - its not a problem if I PLAN to turn. But suddenly a taxi went a bit close, I instinctively veered to the left and almost lost all control! Left, right, left, whoa! Scary moment.

Thanks again PeterX, but their place is in your shed I guess :)

BTW - it turned out I cannot stay in my friends house in Castlebar this weekend. Unfortunately - or fortunately, considering Friday forecast... 30-35kph headwind all the way to Cork? I don't think I'd have enough guts to hop on the bike the next day, for another 270km, and then another. I'll do it another time, maybe in 2 weeks if Evil 200 won't kill me.

But then, I decided to take a bus to Cork and cycle 300km+ back home, with the sweet, sweet tailwind. I know I'm a softie, but this will definitely be fun :D

A few laps of the Phoneix Park or an out and back on the ould N2 and you'll get used to them. They are not really much fun in traffic.
Tailwind 300km does sound a little like fun. only a little mind:P
