we inherited a solar water heating system when we bought our house last year. we got it serviced and had to get over €1000 euro worth of repairs to the collection tubes. Now we have noticed the pump is running very loudly at night and we can hear a noise like water sloshing about . Is this normal ? We also get an occasional loud banging noise like a valve slamming shut most evenings , the guy that did the work last year didnt seem unduly concerned by this . Does this sound right .. what should I be checking ?

    How many tubes have you?
Why did you need it serviced? What was wrong?
The first thing a service entails is checking the quality of the glycol and checking there are no leaks or air in the system.
Did your control panel show the water is heating? Was it noisy then?
What type of system is it? Is there any paperwork? If it is a standard heat pipe system then unlikely all the tubes failed.
The tubes are not repaired but if broken are replaced. They do not break easily. So £1,000 worth of tubes is likely to be all of an average sized collector.Very suspicious.....?
Did you see the broken tubes? (the ends of heat pipe tubes would be white not silver if they failed).
Did you get a receipt and guarantee of works?

Get the "guy" back to properly check the system for air and replace the glycol fluid and bleed correctly. This should have been done for the £1,000 in my view. If it was allegedly done he needs to do it correctly now FOC.
Can you post images of the installation?
