20 year old. Looking to learn how to drive on my mams car.

A friend sent me this link http://www.aviva.ie/online/driving/driving-school/pricesandbooking/

basically your parents take out the policy and they give you 10 driving lessons and 6 months insurances for 400 or 13 lessons for 499

Grand. Now i want to know. Has anybody gotten this deal?
After 6 months ( my parents would be locked in for a year) , will they screw you for the remainder 6 months

or could i be insured by a different company on the same car,
(not a car person so forgive if that sounds a tad stupid^)

like its grand if you got the insurances for an extra 300 but if they going to charge 1500 for the remainder 6 months , there no point

In theory there is nothing to stop you getting insured in the same car by a different company unless either company have terms that block it.

However you would only be looking at paying more money regardless so I doubt there would be any savings.

On top of that there would be a mess when it comes to any claims.

I got a great insurance deal with them after I did this. I don't remember exactly what I was quoted, but it was far cheaper than what I got anywhere else. They give you a discount on insurance after the 6 months if you do the lessons with them. Since your parents will already have the policy with them, at the end of the 6 months you can get insured with them for the remainder of their policy.

Do you have and idea of how much it was?

Daughter did this a couple of years ago. Got the 6 mths insurance in both a 1.8 Avensis AND a 2.0 Santa Fe. When she was finished the lessons her instructor gave her a 'rating'. She was classed as 'driving test' standard. She went as 'named driver' on the Avensis for the remaining 6 mths at €350, as far as I can remember. When she did pass her test at about 3 mths into her own insurance there was no drop in her premium as she was already classed as being of that standard. Has her own car and policy now, chipping away at her 'no claims'!

I think it was around €370 for the remaining 7 months on my dad's insurance, and that's on a 1.8l ford mondeo. I don't remember how it worked out at 7 months. Probably because my dad was with Aviva for a few years so he might have renewed just after I started that deal. But I was insured on both his car and my mom's 2l for those 6 months with the lessons.

    cheers lads, Thats aint bad.
Considering it would be about 300/350 for 12 lessons , your paying what , 450 for the year

I would be getting it on my ma's car as my dad drives a jeep , but its only at 1.3 l suzuki ignis (01)
    so maybe not even that.

    Cheers lads
