Sounds like the starter to be fair.

If rocking it makes it start, it cannot be the battery. Sounds like starter to me too.

Not very likely. If it was the battery you should have needed a jump start.

ya once i rock it i hear that click and will start

Problem with reconditioned starters is that some guys will only recondition the bit that failed leaving you with a generally very worn unit still.

ya thats what i thought.scrapyard job so maybe

what price scrappys charge for a 2nd hand one and how to fit thanks

Bring it back to where you got it done, even you need to spend a small bit extra fixing it again, it'll be better than a scrapyard one.

Obviously push for a free fix as you'd expect it to have been done right and not fail within months.

You're usually better off bringing it somewhere than going to a scrappy.
Most auto electricis can do this. I think I paid €120 for a recon

any other decent ones out there that will properly diagnose and fix it this time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭gctest50

could be the ring gear too - easy check - remove starter motor and look as you rotate engine very slowly

or the signal to the solenoid / power supply is weak - will cause this too

anyway - not rocket science - only three things involved

    power supply (& "signal" )
    starter motor
    ring gear/ flywheel

    - provided there is nothing catastrophic wrong

    .

Wouldn't the op hear a whirring noise if this were the case?
