When Tubbs pops off to Radio 1 soon, Chris and Ciara will be on late mornings on 2FM.

Wow. What an experiment that'll be!

Source ? ?? They filled in for Tubridy about a year ago and went down like a lead balloon

Nicky Byrne to 9am, C&C after, I'm told.

Chris and ciara are good on nightimes but never heard them on mornings.

Going by how spot on this forum has been re: moves in the past, I'm assuming this could well be true!

Chris and Ciara did daytimes back in the i102-104 days IIRC, although I'm not sure if they were together or on two different shows. Only heard them in passing.

I'll miss them on nights if this ends up happening (been listening to them for years), but I'm sure that they can make the step up to daytimes and do a great show. Kind of reminds me when Ray Foley moved from The Blast to lunchtime. Not many thought that it would work, but it did.

What's the need for all the shuffling? No need whatsoever to move settled shows.

    7-10 Breakfast
    10-1 Nicky Byrne
    1-4 Rick O'Shea
    4-7 Eoghan McDermott

wasn't this trialled during the week gone?

Wouldn't be the worst decision and fits in well enough with the current schedule.

Chris & Ciara belong at night

They were on together on i. They'd be a fair bit edgier than 2FM daytimes would have had, well, ever actually.

Do Chris & Ciara deserve a promotion ? They have tiny jnlr ratings of 12k and their show isn't really talked about at all on forums like this.

This forum doesn't really talk about the best shows and even those shows that are being talked about are just talked about because they are ****e

I'm a huge fan, I think they are absolutely hilarious. But I think that their edginess will go missing on daytime, and that's the secret weapon gone.

    Think you're right

There's a lesson to be learned from Adrian & Jeremy moving to daytimes.

    They are terrible.

Next time you listen just count how many times Chris says "well there you go" "there we go" or "there you go" or how many times he calls Ciara a "beautiful creature" or how many times Ciara says "stop Chris" or "that's enough Chris" I liked it at the beginning but it gets very repetitive and very predictable.

I'm surprised that the papers aren't writing about this if it's true because Irish newspapers love writing about radio schedule changes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

    I really doubt this'll happen.

D'Arcy taking Tubridy's slot would be my guess. Because I've long since lost hope that 2FM will actually become a music station.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,696 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

But 2fm are a music station though ? I think they have at least stopped getting worse and are trying.

It's not. Almost 1/3 of their daytime output is talk based. And Nicky Byrne, Rick O'Shea and Colm Hayes' shows are heavy on talk.

Playing music every now and then does not make you a music station, no matter how much they like to cheer about it in their imaging.

Or at the start of the show when he calls her "this wonderful woman", hard to believe he's only in his 20's, he sounds middle aged to me.

Well, to be fair, Ciara is a very intelligent and attractive girl, while Chris is a geeky little man.

So I don't blame him for fawning!

Also, it's his dry style - you need to 'get' him! He's a very intelligent and quick-witted guy really.

Whether their studenty style will suit mornings on 2fm when students are all in college or asleep is another matter.

Yes nothing to draw in the an audience like a guy who is over 50 and was leaking listeners on a rival station..............

That Chris Greene sounds like someone who doesn't have a clue about music

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 297 ✭✭John Joe Jones

I wonder which daytime timeslot they will actually get ? Mid mornings, lunchtime or afternoons ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭smurfs5

Think they'll get afternoons 1-4 with Rick O' Shea making way. Think they've been excellent on drive this week and I'm a big fan of their nighttime show which is brilliant fun. Could see them doing well in the afternoon.

Sadly presenters on music stations don't need to know anything about music these days..

Yeah Rick O'Shea is the longest man standing now on weekdays, he has been on afternoons since March 2007

I never listen to 2FM but I tune in most nights just for Chris and Ciara, I think they are really funny :)

In my book then you do listen to 2FM :)

Plus I agree with you. They are good fun.

Enjoyed them when they were on Drive By last week. Must have been the first time I've listened to 2FM between 5-7 on my way home since Will Leahy's last show.

They were great back on iradio around 2009, very raw and plenty of freedom. Turn them on the odd time now but generally stick to my golden rule of avoiding all things 2fm - no surprise the music they play whenever I listen in is the worst of the chart muck.

Actually, judging by the last JNLRs, I think Dan Healy has been playing the long game with 2FM and has slowly cleared out the shows from daytime that don't connect with a younger market.

I mean, Nicky Byrne and Breakfast Republic were brought in, both of which seem to be making headway, now he's offloaded Tubridy and Hayes, and as much as I love Rick O'Shea and Will Leahy, I'm willing to admit that they aren't right if 2FM want to for the younger crowd.

So, while the current crop of shows on 2FM aren't for me, I think it's wholly unfair to say he's making a mess of it. Sure, the last few years have been rough, but if things keep going the way they're going he could well turn out to be a genius.

Chris Greene does the worst links ever heard on national radio but I guess radio has moved on and that doesn't matter.

They are filling in on breakfast this week I believe

Yes, I thought I was caught in some kind of time warp when I heard them on yesterday morning.

Are the breakfast Republic all on holidays en masse? You'd think with 3 of them, they might just be able to do a show with 2 if 1 was off for the week.

Have the nobody in 2fm who could fill in, instead of moving a night time team to the morning and disrupting the schedule again?

Obviously they want to give them the exposure to daytime radio before their permanent move to daytime in a couple of weeks.

The 3 of them haven't the talent to create a successful show, can you imagine the tripe they would come up with If only two of them were given the responsibility can you imagine the ear bleeding that would cause.
It's got nothing to do with giving Chris & Ciara exposure, anytime Breakfast republic go on holidays they go as one.

Don't be surprised if they start their daytime show without any announcement e.g tomorrow. That's how the current management of 2fm like doing things.

I have to say, I really enjoyed them on Breakfast. But I liked their show on iRadio (or wherever it was). Haven't listened to their late 2fm slot.

Pretty sure the only thing that will happen tomorrow is the breakfast show will confirm they are on until 10am every morning and Nicky Byrne will start straight after that.

Listened to these 2 filling in on Breakfast Republic last week. I thought Colm Hayes was painful! They were just brutal. Particularly the guy Chris, absolutely loves the sound of his own voice. Brutal radio. Tried the 5 mornings to listen & turned over 5 mornings to another station.
