Do you feel obliged to chat during beauty treatments?

    Hi ladies (and any gents!),

Bit of a ridiculous question, but thought I'd throw it out there. Just wondering whether people generally feel under pressure to be chatting the whole time during beauty treatments, hair appointments etc? I know there are some where you might not be talking (like some massages/facials for example), but I always feel under pressure to be full of chat when I'm getting a haircut or wax. I'm a bit of an introvert and sometimes find myself thinking up things to tell the therapist before the appointment so as not to have awkward silences! Am I being ridiculous? I'd be happy enough to be quiet (at least some of the time) if I thought it wasn't rude, but I'm not sure if it's normal to not be chatty in that situation? I'm not totally socially awkward or anything, just a bit shy and quiet sometimes. Part of me thinks it's madness as I'm paying for the service so I shouldn't worry about silences, but I really don't want to come off as rude. What do you do?

I rarely chat in hairdressers - one of my few chances to read a mag. In beauticians I'd chat if I felt like it / knew the therapist well but I love just to have a quiet time where no-one talks to me/I don't have to talk to them!

I chat to my current beautician and hairdresser, only because I know them at this stage, have been going to them for about 2 years now. Any silences aren't awkward with them.

I would be a fairly quiet person with people I don't know. With previous beauticians and hairdressers I used in other places I never had the same one twice so I was struggling to talk to them and they must have thought I was very stand offish!

I do try to make sure I have plenty to chat about when getting a bikini wax though - I need the distraction!!

When I'm getting waxed I don't shut up talking :D but just because I like to distract myself :)

But when I'm in hairdresser I don't want to chat, I like to just relax and not have to try shout over the hair dryers etc.

Oh god yeah it's so hard to talk when there is a hairdryer beside your ear! Or when they offer you tea or coffee then cut your hair and you either can't get a chance to reach over for your cup or your end up getting hairs in it!

I actively procrastinate hair and beauty appointments because I dread the conversation.

I rarely talk during them tbh if the beautician/hairdresser asked me anything I'd answer and I'd be friendly in doing so but I wouldnt strike up any chat at all. Not anything personal against them of course I just dont have anything to say to them, I dont know them personally at all..
I'd just either be using my phone or read the magazines and enjoy the quiet time :)

I chat to my hairdresser and beautician, but only because I've been going to them so long that they'll bring up things like past holidays/weddings/etc & we can chat about those.

I don't even bother trying to talk to my hairdresser (nor does she) when she's drying my hair though because it's way too loud.

If I was going to someone new though I wouldn't be overly chatty as I'm definitely an introvert too. I'll answer their questions but I don't feel the need to start a conversation.
