Mercides Benz A140 Automatic Gear box 2001 model, This car has done only 26 K miles.

the problem is it will drive only at 30km/hr the max. speed.

and when we engage drive to gear, car jerks with a bank. and speed wont go above 30 km/hr . gear shifting is not happening .

does any one know what would be the issue.

    thanks

That's an automated manual rather than a conventional automatic.

if its been "hanging on" to first gear for a while it can be a sign of one of the clutches failing on some of them

if someone revved it hard for ages in neutral/park AFTER it had been in any gear one clutch can fail on some of them

( eg daft NCT test playing with it before revving it )

You will need to have the codes read by someone with a suitable tester, that includes transmissions. If this car uses the 722.6/722.6 gearbox then your issue could he the conductor plate sandwiched between the clutches and the valve body bits basically the electronics of the transmission. Mercs can lock you in the last known good gear or just one gear either electrically or hydraulically when the fault occurs. If you turn it off and on again does it reset ? Where are you based ?
