Hi everyone, new to boards. Can any one help? My polo started giving problems starting about a year ago. Sometimes it would start first go or you could be anything up to 20 mins trying. Always starts in the end! No warning lights on dash .This happens cold or hot, rain or sun. So to cut it short...After many mechanics and plug in's I replaced crank, cam, temp sensors I replaced plugs and leads. I changed keys. Fuel pump primes everu time. When I checked while cranking there was no spark. Changed the coil with a second hand one. This fixed my problem for nearly a year! Until last week. Started playing up again so I taught the secondhand coil was getting faulty so I fit a new one. This time it didn't fix the problem. I can't seem to find a mechanic who will take it on. They all just guess. Hence me wasting time and money replacing things that are not broke. Any help appreciated. Anyone know a good auto electrician around drogheda? Noel

If you have a laptop get one of these http://www.ebay.ie/itm/VAG-409-1-USB-OBD2-II-KKL-ECU-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-LEAD-Compatible-VCDS-LITE-/271599821796?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f3c9c63e4

It will let you scan it for fault codes and see live data using vcds lite.

hi again... believe it or not colum_mcm i only fixed this problem recently!! after many mechanics looking at it, i found out myself that it was actually the ignition!! just worn parts. every time you turned the key to crank, it was going past the power contact!!! if you turned the key to on...then gave the car a push it would start!! so i put a push button on and it solved the problem. just turn the key to on then push the button to crank it!! but after a while the whole lot died so i got a new ignition switch for 10 euro on e bay and now it's perfect! bit of a bummer to fit as the air bag and wheel had to come off to change it. done now thanks every one. hope this can help someone else who has the same type of issue
