Re Calf Consuming plastic

    I have calf 4-5 months old .I noticed him chewing o a small piece of silage wrap today while grazing.I watched for a good while but didn't see the piece of plastic falling out.Could this do any harm to him

    If it's only one small piece he'll be fine. Numerous or long bits could get tangled and ball up inside him. It's a great habit to get into to pick up every little bit you see lying about the field. Stick them in your pocket and bin them back in the yard.
    You'll have peace of mind then! :)

    Lost a cow 20 yrs ago who had a gut full of plastic. Vet was treating her but couldn't put his finger on what was causing scour, pain,low temp etc. She seemed to pick up and so I left her out. Found her dead one morning a week later. Vet was anxious to do post mortem if she popped off so he came out. Within 2 mins of opening her he pulled out the cause. A big dangling mass of plastic balls mostly what looked like fertiliser bags and square bale twine. Cow was on farm before i took over. Could be 6-8 yrs old and would have easily consumed the stuff as the place wasnt kept very tidy.
