    It's back on!

Dust off your CX bikes, take the slick tyres and mudguards off, or maybe an excuse to buy that new Carbon disc braked CX bike!

Can I toddle around this at the back of the bunch on my mtb?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

Do you need a CI open licence to race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

i think it's limited competition licence for cx. AFAIK you will be able to enter the B race on your mtb

Just a reminder, from last year:

They do one day licences for the other cyclocross races - up to the organisers.

the open licence/full competition licence is only required for open road racing. AFAIK fatbloke has a limited licence so shouldn't need a 1dl.

    cheers

Probably a bit off topic here. But looking at the video above im just wondering what the appeal of CX racing is?

It mostly appears as cycling on flatish grass, which in itself isn't the most enjoyable thing to do.

It lacks the speed of proper road racing and perhaps the adrenaline, 'offroadness' and technicality of MTBing.

If it were to get a bit muddy one might have a of different and enjoyable experience. But a dry day cycling on grass?

I know very little about CX just looking to see what its all about.

Continuous effort with little or no respite for an hour or so. What's not to like?

I'd say, as a team, you would be quicker if he cycled and you sat on the back.

I've signed up too, first ever cx race, I expect to spend more time sliding around on my fat arse than actually on my bike...

Taking the cx bike up to Achill for the weekend. Better start practicing my remounts while I'm up there. Can't wait for next week. :)

You should unclip just fine on impact. The sideways slide is entertaining (as long as it's not the drive side that can be expensive).

Signed up. Never done a CX race before.
Where is a noob most likely to lose time? Is it when dismounting/remounting? Or running up a hill with the bike? Or would one tend to lose more time when actually riding, like negotiating turns etc?

All of the above! Most of time lost on turns and technical sections, top riders far faster all round though. Some seem to rise as fast off road as on..
Chill and enjoy it, resign yourself to getting lapped initially at least 🚴ðŸ႒ðŸ»ðŸ˜Ž

I probably lost most time while cornering last year - trying to start up near the front would help if you're confident enough for it too.
