In Ireland is you are a business you can trade as Joe Bloggs (your name) easily...

but if you want to call yourself "Acme Plumbers" you have to registerer a business name or indeed a company called that.

In reality there are many sole traders who are Joe Bloggs trading as Acme Plumbers, or Acme Whatever who do not bother to spend the 20 or 40 euro to register a business name.

The Registration of Business Names Act, 1963 says they should, but IN REALITY, HAS ANYONE EVER BEEN PROSECUTED AND FINED THE TOKE 100 irish pounds under the Registration of Business Names Act, 1963 for failing to register?
