Hey! Just wondering if anyone can help. My car has to be scrapped, not worth fixing it as it wasn't worth much to start with. I can't seem to find the ownership documents though, will this be a problem when getting the breakage certificate or applying for a refund of tax?
    Thanks in advance!

You need the log book to have the car scrapped, if you cant find the logbook, then you will have to apply for a replacement one. its very straight forward, fill out the form, get it stamped by the guards and send it off, You should have a new book in a few days

Yes, you will need that VRC. I've scrapped cars and handed the VRC over. They in turn gave me the end of life cert.

Just print this form off:> https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/RF134_en.pdf

Fill it in, get the Gardai to stamp it, bring it to your local motor tax office along with €12 and you will receive a new log book within 7 days or so.

Thanks for the replies! Why would happen if you hadn't got the papers? Would most places just refuse to take it, would it be an issue at all in the future? Moving house in a few days and only found out about the car so can't bring it with me.

    Thanks again!

Sorry for piggybacking on this thread

I was wondering the procedure for selling my car for scrap
About three weeks ago my 14 year old car broke down on the motorway
    The head gasket blew!
I had to get it towed off by a recovery company
It's not worth fixing the guy who towed it offered me some cash for it said he would have some use for it I.e parts
Sent me on cash yesterday now he wants me to sent him the VRC, is the way it works or does he not issue me with a certificate of destruction?

Also the tax was due to be renewed in June not sure what the situation with that is?

    Thanks in advance

Contact him and find out if he is able to issue you a cert of destruction, only licenced recyclers are authorised to do this, if so then give him the VRC and get the cert.

If he cannot provide this then I would fill in his name/address on the change of ownership form and send it off to be registered to him.

If either of those are done then there is no need to worry abut the tax.
