Ruptures his ankle ligament playing football with his friends. Now call me a spoil sport if you want but what is a professional golfer doing risking himself playing football especially coming up to the Open Championship.

Cant imagine Nike who pay him $25m a year to wear their gear can be happy.

    Just seems so irresponsible.

If someone was giving me 25 million simoleons for wearing their brogues I'd play football with faberge eggs if the notion took me

Imagine that. Doing something other than golf !!! How dare he !

COuld have easily happened when he was making himself a cup of tea. Do you want him to stop drinking tea too? (Assuming he drinks tea)

He'll just have to sit and home and try amuse himself with his multi-million dollar fortune.

    Sounds awful right enough.

Its unfortunate, but aside from that I don't see how you can say anything bad about it.

Can't expect him to do nothing but play golf and sleep all the time. He'd go insane!

Bit harsh. It was just a fluke that he got the injury. How often do people get bad injuries while only having a kick about with their friends.

They might throw him a few extra quit to put a Nike tick on his cast.

Also, isnt their slogan "Just Do It"? They could hardly turn around and give out to him for being irresponsible

So anyone that gets injured playing sport at the weekend and can't make it to work on Monday is an idiot? Bit harsh to say the least.

He'll get even more coverage now because of this, Nike won't be missing out, if anything they will get more exposure.

He's a professional, he lives under a different set of rules to the rest of us. His sponsors pay him handsomely to wear or swing their logos out on the green in front of millions on TV.

I didn't know professionals are built to act like robots. Such is the society we live in...

How dare he have a life outside golf.

Playing football with his friends is "irresponsible" in your view???? The lad needs to have a life outside of golf or he'll go insane! Do you think he should he be kept in a padded room and only let for tournaments is that it? Get real, it sounds to me like he was just unlucky.

I suppose Mcillroy is self employed but it's still a bit stupid to put the legs at risk. I bet there are restrictions on what premiership players can do, no crazy stunts that could cause an injury. To legs or hands.

could happen anyone, even if you wrap him in bubble wrap im sure he would get injured someway, that's life

If you'd like to discuss what golfers do in their spare time, there is a golf forum over yonder.

Please read their charter before posting though, and refrain from the namecalling!
