Hello, I was moving a car given to me from one apartment block to my own which Iis no more than 10 minutes drive away! As I came around the corner I saw a checkpoint! I panicked , parked the car and got out! the car had no tax or nct on it, I walked away but about an hour later I returned to the garda and explained that I was driving the car. The car was seized naturally and the garda took my name and address. He was extremely nice and asked me to produce my license and insurance at my local garda station. As my license has expired AnD I wasnt insured. What are my options here? I just want the whole thing sorted as its causing a lot of stress! Will I go to the garda station and ask! This happened only last Friday so 2 days ago! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I also have never been in trouble before!

No licence and no insurance? Well that was a silly thing to do wasn't it. Expect a summons and a hefty fine..

    Yeah it was very silly!

And a driving ban. Driving with no insurance there should be no leeway no exceptions and no leniency.

Not to mention a pile of penalty points as well. You should have stayed away for 2 or more hours !!!!!

Penalties for driving without insurance include five penaly points, a fine of up to 5000, up to six months in prison, and two years ban from driving for first offence instead of points at court discretion

If you don't produce documents as you can't, the car will be destroyed and you will be summonsed to court

Only the penalty points for the highest offence are applied if there are multiple offences that attract points

In this case it would be five for no insurance
