    Howdy folks,

In a bit of a bind here, im looking to upgrade my GPU in order to play the Witcher 3 and GTA V and all the new game coming out soon. I have a 7950 and its not longer cutting the mustard.

My problem is im torn, do i go cheap and get a GTX970, or do I save and go for a 980Ti?

I have a 24' 1080p monitor, so is there any point in getting a 980?

970 is fine for 1080p. A 980 would be overkill.

The 7950 card should still be capable at 1080p though. Is it iverclocked at all?

Alternatively get a 290 or 290x if psu allows. Will also murder most games at that res.

7950 is just decent at 1080p, I think a 980Ti is overkill for 1080p atm

290 or 970 should cut for you

A 970 will do the trick at 1080p. It has the edge over a 290 too at 1080 IMO. They overclock great too and are efficient, very light on the juice.

    What is your CPU btw?

thread hijacker here, I am in the same boat as I have a 6970 which doesn't cut it for The Witcher so I want to upgrade but should I go for a 970 or wait till AMD's new cards come out and the dust settles?
I am currently 1080 but am thinking of getting a 1440 monitor at some stage

970 at 1080 would be a massive upgrade. 290 is just as good, but would be a bit slower at 1080, but faster at 1440p (390 is just a rebrand that's clocked higher).

I would wait another month to see what the Fury has to offer, at the very least it will spur price cuts in the competition.

Fury-X is coming in close to the 980, so i'm gonna hold out until the 980 comes in and see what Nvidia will drop for the 970

An upgrade to the 980 will be released shortly with increase cooling fans and quieter mode.

Looks like the GFX market is starting to heat up again.

Depending on the rest of your setup (PSU, mobo, case etc) I'd be inclined to pick up another 7950 for crossfire and overclock them. They will be more than enough for 1080p and you should pick up and 7950 for half the price of a 970.

Easier to sell a 7950 and put €100 or so towards the 970, and save problems from CF, temps etc

The 290 is good value vs the gtx 970 imo at the moment, ad long as ypu dont get the dreadful reference cooler model. Your paying another 120-150 euro for 10-20% more fps, and theres less of a gap at 1440p.
