Back to work and month in hand Query.

Hi, I have a query that I hope someone can help me with. First of all I myself am unemployed and have been for a long time, my partner was unemployed but recently has been offered work on a 3 month contract, on the understanding that it may lead to a more permanent position.

If my partner accepts the position I am aware that the money I am receiving at the moment will be reduced, based on the salary they will be receiving.

What I am worried about is, when we inform the social welfare that my partner is taking up full time employment, there social payments will be stopped and mine reduced. There will be nothing coming in for a month while my partner is working a month in hand. Is there any scheme or office we can turn to that can help us financially, until there first month is paid into the bank.

Turning to family for a loan is not an option, and before anyone mentions savings remember people on social benefits these days are barely existing, savings are out of the question.

Any help or suggestions will be well appreciated. :)

Contact your local CWO and ask them if they can help.

Are you claiming for yourself with herself as your dependent? If so, then there is no requirement for her to be available for work so it's perfectly in order for you to wait until she gets paid before presenting her payslip at your local SW office for meanstesting.
If you have separate claims then she should close her claim snd become your dependent first thing Monday morning.

Ask Welfare about the Defered Payments Scheme (or some thing like that) which cover this scenario. It's not well known and not all the CWOs working in your office will know about it. Never heard of it myself until recently but it was from some one working in Welfare/DSP.
