I'm putting together some decking and was wondering what I should use on the end of timber that's been cut to seal it from the elements, any suggestions?

You can buy a can of 'end grain preserver' like this

If you can't source that proprietary product you could simply make up a boiled linseed oil/ white spirit mix and brush it liberally into the end grain. It will seal the grain and help prevent it wicking up water down the road.
