Having a problem with my Ford Focus 2001 Zetec 1.4L petrol.
It is refusing to start. The engine is turning over but just not starting.
I have a suspicion that it is fuel related. Is there any checks I can do to see if the fuel pump is working? It looks like a nightmare to remove it either cut the floor under the back seats or remove the fuel tank.

Quiet likely it is your fuel pump. Are you sure there is petrol in it because the guages can read wrong aswell.
To get the fuel pump out you have to drop the tank out of the car.

There is no recall on fuel pumps.

You could make two cuts in the floor and peel it back a little to release the pump. It's straightforward to change out

Thanks all for your comments. I contacted ford and there was no recall on my car.
In the end I ended up cutting the floor under the back seat when I was confident there was no fuel gett threw. When I went to hit the cover off the top of the tank the vibration of me hitting the tank withthe hammer must of kicked the pump back working. Car is starting perfect now. I'm not too sure what to do now. Leave it along or change the pump.

She will let you down again. I'd advise getting another pump from scrappie

I picked up a new pump from the motor factors for €70. I had to take pump assembly out of the tank to change pump. Car was starting before i did this now it wont. I can hear pump kicking in but car wont turn over. Disconnected fuel line at engine and getting some petrol comming through. Dont know if im getting enough to start it. Any ideas appriciated.

Did you change the fuel filter?

No didnt change the fuel filter. I wasnt sure it would restrict the petrol not too start the car. But i will change it. Access isnt great to it thats what put me off.
    Thanks

Turned out to be a dodgy connection on the pump assembly in the fuel tank. Starting on the button now ☺

I would still recommend changing the fuel filter if there is no history of it being done. Just pull the relay for the fuel pump and crank it until it won't start. This is to release the pressure in the lines. A 10mm bolt holds on the filter bracket but can be access with a long socket extension. The fiddliest part is disconnecting the clips on the in and out ports.
