    HI,

There's a parcel of land that my partner is interested in buying that has a domestic water supply for a house across the road on the land. From what we hear this is fairly unusual but could this lead to complications further down the line regarding access and maintenance.
Would love to hear if anyone else has any experience with this kind of issue?

It could be an old well that was pumped or a family arrangement from a good few years ago. Either way there should be s right of way marked on the land registry maps for the parcel. A number of people have right of way onto our land to access a well. It has long since fallen out of use but one of the residents is extremely sensitive about any action we take which might interfere with their access to the well. Point of principle in many ways with them. Easy enough to go along and get along. Once the right of way was clear and easy to police it wouldn't put me off buying.

Have a farm water supply from a neighbouring farmer. It was installed 40 years ago, when the dwelling was sold of the bit of land I now have, and the farmer the well is on was related to my uncle.

We have both inherited the situation, AFAIK there is no right away but a respect for what was installed by previous generations, and the new owner of the farm with the well is not related.

It never put her father off buying the farm and I hope she is as easy going as he was.....
