Chevrolet Aveo

A question for those in the know if I might please?
I've been offered an aveo for a rock bottom price (friend selling for personal reasons so I don't question the motive) however it seems too big a frame car for too small an engine - does that make sense? I know nothing about cars but I drive a meriva atm and its dogged with problems so I don't want to go from the frying pan into the fireplace.
I do a fair bit of mileage, Kildare to Dublin commute each day with 2 smallies in the back and budget is an issue thats why I'm considering this aveo.
    Any words of wisdom?

A lad in work has one, had a few problems with it, seems like the car is made from chocolate, very prone to wear. All the nasty things people say about Toyota are real in the Aveo, it is extremely plasticy and nasty to be in.

I think they are just a fettled version of the Daewoo Lanos anyway aren't they?

I'd avoid. There's a reason you can get fairly new ones for buttons.

Going from bad to something slightly less bad, not worth it imo.

Unless they're giving you the car and a wad of cash, I wouldn't bother. They're an awful, awful car.

What year mileage and price is it , they are not the worst at the right price .

Carrying two kids around in one of those id have concerns. They have a poor safety rating by today's standards. I'd say they'd crumble like tin foil in a smash. Try pay a bit extra and get something like a Golf, Astra, Leon or Focus. Search out the right deal and car you may not end up paying all that much more.
The Meriva are a good car, you may have just got a lemon.

From 2010 on they have a 5 star ncap safety rating , at lot depends on the year and the price.

Actually was just going to post this. It's the old 2006 model that was dire. The 2010 clearly a vast improvement.

I'm looking on carzone there and the 06 models for sale look the exact same as the last 2011 ones bar a different grill, etc. A Suzuki Liana or Nissan Tiida would be a better buy imo.

The new model one is completely different. Bordering on decent looking.

Ah right, doesn't seem to be any of those on carzone.

The friend hasn't got a Liana or Tiida for sale for rock bottom price as far as we know .

Thanks all :-) car is 2008 for a little under 3k. I've decided not to go with it though. we'll go for something older but with a more reliable (hopefully) name

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Chevrolet leave the Irish market in 2013? It'd be very hard I imagine to source new parts for these cars in the next few years.

They use old opel engines & suspension parts as Chevrolet are part of GM. servicing & maintenance isn't a problem.

You dis the right thing. I don't think that's a bargain at all! Save your cash and buy something competent (and safe). That model has a 1.5 star rating in euro ncap. No way I'd drive one for that alone.

    Parts shouldn't be an issue.

The last generation weren't bad cars for their price point. Yes somewhat plastically, but for a for the price-point they weren't awful.
