New pc connection killed router!

New pc arrived today and son connected to powerline adaptor. Was downloading stuff, went to do something else and when he checked back no connection. Router no longer has Internet connection and phone only works when Internet router unplugged. Vodafone line test showed line ok with phone but fault on modem. So new modem on way.
Does anyone have any idea what might have happened as seems too coincidental that it died just when new pc connected! I am worried the same will happen again so any advice on how to connect up an additional pc that needs to be used with powerline adaptor would be gratefully received. Adaptor was tested using laptop (which would have been connected direct to router in past) and was fine. And it did work for a short while today.
    Thanks!

Not possible to damage it via homeplugs. The receiving homeplug would have to surge the modem. Highly unlikely. Coincidence.
