lunch breaks

So, as I was scarfing down my lunch in a rush today, I got to thinking how short lunch breaks are and how I'd love to have longer breaks. Cue indigestion. How long do you all get for your breaks ? Do you feel they're sufficient? Or would you like longer breaks?

Get 30 mins myself, all you need to eat really and it means you get to knock off half an hour earlier which I'd much rather do than sit twiddling my thumbs at lunchtime.

I'd skip lunch altogether tbh. Idle chit chat with peiple I don't care about, I get enough of that from customers

Sometimes just have a bite to eat and keep working if crazy busy.

Better though to take your time and get out for a walk if possible and then come back refreshed and more productive. Half an hour is not long enough for this, maybe 45 minutes would do it.

I get a half hour and I'm lucky if I can take it. My husband gets 1 hour and says its way too long. He'd prefer to get 30 mins and finish 30 mins earlier.

I take the full hour. I'll eat in about 20 mins, then go for a walk if the weather suits. I come back to work afterwards feeling quite refreshed and more productive (in theory). I know others who go to the gym during lunch, maybe taking 90 min break but working later. We are in a very flexible environment though.

I take an hour, I go to the gym in that time as it's quite close. Otherwise i'd go for a walk. Hour is perfect. I'd say 1.5 hours would be good too, less rushing around.

I can take anything from 30 mins to two hours, flexi time FTW. I normally only take 30 minutes and eat at my desk. I might take one long lunch every 3/4 weeks.

Don't have any official time, usually take between 45-75 mins. Depends on how busy I am.

I'm given an hour. Usually take 30 minutes, but I'm not allowed clock off early if I only take half an hour. I usually just get very bored after half an hour!

I would take the hour and go for a walk, but I'm stood in the same place for anywhere between 8-12 hours in work, so my feet are sore!

I have had all types of lunch breaks over the years.

An hr break is way too long

A 30 min break is good.

Currently have no break as such but have long periods of quiet times so it evens out

Prefer to have a quick lunch and then spend about 30m on a walk, weather permitting.

Work in an IT resourcing company, so you don't get a lunch break on at least three of the five days in the standard working week.

Generally around 45 minutes, which is fine to get a meal and a cup of tea.

Generally take an hour - 20 minutes eating/chatting and 40 minutes walk.

Seems like I'm the worst off here.

    15 min lunch break.
    15 min tea break.

    In an 8.5 hour shift.

    Unpaid.

We have to clock out to take a minimum of a 30 minute lunchbreak. If we take less than 30 mins- its automatically rounded up to 30 minutes (regardless of how long you actually take- even if its only 2 mins- its rounded up to 30). If you work through lunch and don't clock out- you incur a penalty- and have 2 hours taken off your clock. So- if you have to work through lunch- you clock out anyway- and keep going- and clock in again a few mins later- and 30 mins is taken off you.

I think there is a legal requirement to take a 30 minute break when you're there for 8+ hours- the penalty thing is to encourage people to clock out- even if they don't have the opportunity to actually take a break.

Can take anywhere from 0 to a couple of hours depending on how busy it is. The joys of being self-employed!

I work in an office and we get an hour for lunch. To be honest it's a waste of time and I would much prefer a shorter lunch break and leave earlier in the evening. The town I work in is tiny so there's nothing to do outside at lunchtime. The people I work with are pigs with no basic table manners so the less time listening to them talking really loudly with their mouth full of food and no consideration for other people in the room, the better.
The one thing I would like is a dedicated lunch room. As it is, everyone takes their lunch in a large communal office that I share with 2 other members of staff and the aforementioned pigs leave dirty dishes, crumbs and food wrappers all around the place.

Wow, that sounds miserable. You get an hour, so I'd get out of the office no matter what if it's as bad as you describe.
