    Kajaki (2014)

A totally gripping war movie set in modern Afghanistan that focus on a group of British troops who walk into the absolute nightmare of an abandoned Russian invasion era minefield.

I got the recommendation from the Electric Boogaloo thread, and thought it was quite something on first viewing. After re watching this recently, I think it's one of the finest war movies I have seen in years. Even though there is almost no combat in it, it successfully focuses on the brotherhood and camaraderie of soldiers under intense pressure in a truly shocking situation. A poignant mixture of professionalism, communications breakdown, nerve shredding desperation and some really powerful hangman's humour. One particular scene has the most macabre, sincere and unforgettable performance of the Happy Birthday song I think I will ever hear.

This film doesn't engage in anything other than the story of the few soldiers over a short period of time so refreshingly doesn't get bogged down in any jingoism or political motivations. The guys are just doing their job. Not a job I would like to do given what happens!

No soundtrack through the entire piece, except a powerful song of rememberer at the end credits suits the seriousness and gravity of the story.

    Highly, highly recommend it.

This has been added to Netflix Ireland and I watched it over the weekend. Absolutely outstanding movie and unbelievably tense. Like the OP, I highly, highly recommend it.

Watched this on Amazon Instant/LoveFilm there a couple of weeks ago; definitely one to recommend.
