BIS degree for retail?

I have BIS in ucc number one on the Cao.
I'm interested in programming and business, but I aren't sure what industry exactly I'd like to get into.
Didn't choose commerce because I really want programming experience. I figured after BIS I could choose a masters down the business or computer road if I wanted.
But, as I don't know what industry I'm interested in, I sometimes think about going into retail. If I did BIS let's say, and got a job in tesco at the same time and really enjoyed it could I still pursue a career in retail and would my degree be useless then?
For arguments sake, I might get a summer job in tesco and then after college I wanted move up the corporate ladder to a management role, my degree would stand out as being that helpful. At that time I wouldn't want to spend time doing a conversion course in retail management, I would prefer to do an MBA.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Moved from Leaving Cert C&JD - probably more likely to get responses here! :)
