Got an offer of a free upgrade from Sky from Unlimited to Fibre ,an extra €20 after 6 months.

Im currently getting speeds of 16mb which seems ok.

Is the fibre worth an extra €20 on my ever increasing sky bill?
Anyone taken the upgrade and was it worth it.

All depends on where u live. Go to eircom website, put in your address and they will tell you what speed you will probably get

Maximum of 50mb according to Eircom line checker.

If you dont max out your current connection, there isnt really a point.

    Key points you'll see:
Lower ping - good for games and Skype or similar
Great upload - noticeable if you upload or send large files, like syncing photos to dropbox or posting a video to facebook.

If you're getting 16mb now, I cannot see the point paying an extra 20 euros for 50mb. How much would you be paying in total for your Internet after the 6months? Like posts above, if you upload alot it might be a good idea, but not just to put up a few videos on Facebook.

My kids want it for gamesharing on the PS4.
I mainly want it for movie streaming.

Not sure I want to give Sky an extra 20 on top of what I pay them for the tv/bb package.

Is there a noticeable difference with 50mb?

Not sure about gaming, but I can stream live tv perfectly with no lagging on my 7mb connection. I didn't realise fibre cost extra? I think it's the same price as standard broadband with Eircom, although they're more expensive anyway.

Wouldn't be a massive difference in download speeds between 16 and 50 but the ping and upload speeds should be much better.

In the same boat myself with Sky unlimited. Offered the upgrage -free for 3 months then €10 extra a month. I don't play games online and find the current service fine for netflix, spotify etc. Hardly worth changing?

My upc-Virgin broadband deal (25 a month) is up and I'm looking at switching to sky fibre broadband as virgin want 50 a month.

Sky is unlimited download, 100m for 40 euro a month.

Anyone here use sky fibre broadband?
If do would you recommend them?

No guarantee you'll get 100Mbit though.

Are you still in contract with Sky? If not, try all the other providers, Just be aware that apart from Virgin and Eir itself, all the others are resellers of Eir's service.
