    Hello all

we are new to Cork and will have to enrol our kids to school. The eldest (boy) will be in Senior Infant this September.

We are living in Ballincollig but travel isn't a problem as I am currently at home.

I have heard good things about Glasheen boys and Bishoptown boys. Can anyone tell me anything on both?

One further consideration is that the school needs to have an equally good girl school near as our second child is a girl and she will start in Sep16.

Thank you all for any info!

Glasheen Boys school is really really good. They are involved in a great variety of activities. Parents speak particularly highly of the school. There is also a very helpful website and there is a lovely girls school on the same grounds. If you have not already been in contact, telephone or email the school as soon as you can as they may or may not have availability, depending on the class. I hope it all works out for you.

When going for your primary school have one eye towards secondary school as some schools are favoured more than others. For example Spioraid Naomh in Bishopstown has a higher rate going to Spioraid Naomh than Glasheen and secondly St. Catherines (Girls school) gets one into Mount Mercy easier.
By buddy's dad is the gaffer in Glasheen and he is very nice so I can tell you personally they have a very good management system.

Some people don't realise that the founding feeder school for Colaiste an Spiorad Naomh is actually Glasheen and all of my neighbours and friends children who have gone to Glasheen then move (and have always moved) on to Colaiste an Spiorad Naomh. (Some of the Glasheen boys go to other schools around Cork too).

Some years ago, the numbers attending Glasheen were smaller but they have grown a lot now as there is strong demand for places there. For that reason the numbers moving to the local secondary schools have also increased.:)

I am a past pupil. I went to Glasheen, then Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh then UCC, like nearly all of the guys I was friendly with. Glasheen is a brilliant school. I would definitely highly recommend it.

We have 2 boys in Glasheen. Before our older boy started we were trying to decide between a couple of schools but we got a place in Glasheen and we have never looked back. We are delighted we accepted it. Parents are kept up to date with the great things that are happening in the school. There is a special atmosphere in the school and my boys are very happy.
