Ireland to strict?

I'm away in Spain on one of the islands. And to me visiting another EU member state, it seems things are not half as strict as in Ireland in terms of EU laws. Kinda pisses me off Ireland seems so strict and by the books. Yet theres a more lax approch in other member states.

The ivt test or our nct over here, some of the cars are fit for the scrap heap yet have passed. Also alot of food safety seems non existent.

Weird and kinda pisses me off.

But without strict laws, I think we would completely take the piss.

    Sure were lovable rogues.

    Start a campaign

    What do we want?
Stricter NCT rules and a higher fail rate.
    When do we want it?
At the same time as stricter food safety rules.

Your on holdays..chill out and drink a few cocktails ffs

Sure another odd things its cheaper over here for a can of Guniness that says its brewed in Dublin than buying the can in Dublin. 1.30€ and a bottle of wine is on 1.50€/2.00. In Ireland its about 8/9€ for the same bottle.

Must say the EuroSpar here is much better than any I have been in Dublin.

Would people be in favour of doing away with traffic lights and putting in pedestrian crossings instead !

Have a look at the Irish on drinking holidays and how they behave in Spain (even though they are nearly as bad here) a clear example as to why our poor little critten of a country needs every law it has :D

Waiting on the missus, time to fit a rant in. These all inclusive holidays what's the catch. Eat and drink all you want? Class act.

Wages are a lot lower there.

No but I don't see why other member states can be so lax and seemly nothing is said about it. I like our nct as much as I moan about it.

I'm guessing leaving cert lads holiday

Has to be his first time out of the country.

Better eurospars in spain? here lad, swallow a naggin for yourself and enjoy the trip, don't mind writing home about the traffic lights.

Yeah! Sometimes you just wish you could drive a rust bucket of shyte around the place with a valid nct disc, whilst puking out the window after your dodgy burger that lay in the sun for a few hours before they cooked it.

F*ck you Kenny, Burton et al!!

The lax approach has really paid off for countries like Spain & Greece.

You think the "ah sure, it's grand" approach is strict?

If you were holidaying in Northern Europe, you would be saying the opposite.

Ireland was always good at bending over cap in hand and fisting itself for the oul master.

We're a sorry excuse for a race of people elbowing each other to be seen as the best boys in Enda Kennys class whilst he in turn wants us to be seen as the best boys in the EU bureaucrats class. Sure what's austerity when the Europe thinks we're very.good boys and well behaved. I've a sense of pride that Mammy and the GAA would be proud of :)

Let me guess. You're a tax exile and Ireland disappoints you. You think we should pull down our socks.

I can understand people's dislike for over-regulation or nanny state governance but I would have thought most people would have no issue with keeping bangers off the road and unwashed hands off the food?

What I don't understand is how the Irish anti-drinking lobby have so much power to get taxes on alcohol increased and all the other rules on alcohol, even though they are in the minority.

We need an Irish pro-alcohol lobby.

Remember the first time I went to a nightclub in Spain. Open until 7am, you'd have to make a serious and concerted effort to get yourself thrown out and not only could you bring a drink onto the dancefloor - you could dance on the tables and no one batted an eye. Paradise.

I'm also annoyed about the food safety over here. I hear e coli is the thing to have right now.

How on this planet could you be confused? Honestly. Why would anyone want food posioning? Are you honestly stupid enough to post that. Yes course I want food posioning when I return home. My point is we are an EU member like Spain, so why do they have seemly different regulation that isn't anywhere near Irelands standard which to me is much much better. When it's all EU regulations, ivt was just another EXAMPLE of what I can SEE, what else do they just turn a blind eye to? Fish quotas etc..? Is it just Spain that's like this. Do you understand my post now.

All our food traceability is aimed at the farmer/primary producer. Yet the last 3 major food scares(BSE pork dioxin horsemeat) were caused by big industries cutting corners. Too much bureaucracy aimed at the small man while the big man gets off scot free.
