Apologies as I realise this is similar to other posts concerning this topic but I've pretty much read through everything else and I am still lost.

Okay then last summer I worked for around 4 and half months part-time and earned a little over 5K, which according to my p45 and p21 was taxed at 20%, so a little over 1 grand in tax payed. According to the payslips which I have left (learnt my lesson about hanging on to those), I was getting taxed USC, PAYE and PRSI at some point or another, now I'm told by others who work there we got our tax back straight into our accounts along which our bi-weekly pay, so one payslip which I believe was the first after I stopped being emergency taxed added in a PAYE and USC deduction of -226, but here i started getting taxed PRSI and continued getting taxed USC after this. Only last week was it that I applied for my P21 and got 102euros worth of USC, so roughly of the 1 grand in tax payed, I got back 328.

I'm just asking if this is normal or am I still due back something? As I'm a 20 year old student I'm still fairly clueless when it comes to all this tax business, and PAYE anytime is also wrecking my head. So I'm just looking for educated guess's so I can decide whether or not to keep pursuing this or just leave it.

This all started when my girlfriend who worked in the same place as me but for roughly 30 days in weekends more and got back around 2 grand which she submitted her p21 so basically I'm just really jealous.

Also I went to one of those tax refund/rebate sites which told me I'm due over a grand in tax back which seems too good to be true any opinions on them?

    Thanks
    Adam

    1. What does your final payslip say for pay and tax and USC
    2. Your P45 should have the same details
    3. If this was your only job then your P21 will also have the same figures.

What is the final figure for:
    Gross Pay
    PAYE paid
    Gross for USC
    USC paid

On your P21 what credits are applied to your income. Personal and PAYE or just personal?

If your total income for the year was 5,000 then you should pay:

    zero tax
    zero USC

    and zero PRSI.
