Just announced that the John Murray Show on Radio 1 will end next week. He will still have a role elsewhere in the station. Brendan O'Connor to take over for the month of July, but no announcement of a permanent replacement.

Miriam or Kathryn Thomas to get it for gender balance, or Tubridy back to R1 to overhaul mornings on 2FM??

There were two threads started at almost the exact same second, so I've merged the two.

about time but bet rte will take the safe option and keep the show the same with a different presenter

It would probably make most sense to move D'Arcy into that slot.

Well if the put ray d'arcy in there I will actually start making it to work on time. Just to avoid listening to him.

Please not Kathryn Thomas - I heard her this week on the D'arcy show and she just doesn't have a great delivery.

One thing about Radio 1 is that apart from Ronan Collins, it's all chat.... was it always thus?

    My money's on Marty.

    (Morrissey, not Whelan)

She has filled in for John on occasion, and not been too bad. She can be raucous, but when she is not, she is okay. And that brings me to a point that bugs me: it seems to me that producers in RTÉ are often not strong enough in holding presenters back from going OTT. Derek Mooney's excesses are a case in point.

I was pleasantly surprised when Neil Delamere filled in for John - surprised because I don't much care for Delamere as a comedian.

Not always, but for many years now. I like talk radio. There are plenty of music channels, if that's what you want.

Only get to listen to it on time off from work. Have to say that I thought it was ok. Actually thought the morning that he came back fro being absent was quite moving. Wish him all the best in the future.

As for the future, heard Marty Morrissey in January once or twice and thought it was quite good. If he got a good team behind him it could be a good show.

Have to say that I never liked John Murray's voice. Not a good radio voice in my opinion.

I thought that JM was very good on the Saturday Business Show.

Wouldn't agree, again he went, or tried to go, down the humerous, line and in my opinion failed badly.

Richard Curran presents a much tighter faster moving brisk show.

Nothing against John, but not a frontline credible presenter.

It's got to be Mary O'Rourke....... otherwise I'm turning over to Newstalk :pac:

No-one else is worthy of the 9 o'clock morning slot on RTE 1.

Listening to BOC at the moment, far far better, moving nicely, good interviews, none of the auld vapid empty head stuff JM seemed to like, or be asked to like.

    so far so good.

Fiona Looney was the only downside, but thats just personal taste.

I don't think he failed. He acted as an iconoclast at a time when people were excessively deferential to people in the world of business.

Curran does a good programme, but it is a different product.
