    Hi,
I own a 96 ford fiesta, 1.3ltr and when I slow down my engine will splutter and the steering and accelerator will cut out. Any ideas would be very helpful, mainly is this a mechanic job or is it a D.I.Y. situation?

Try running some fuel system cleaner through it? Is it carb or injection?
The idle jet can get partially blocked or any number of faults on a carb at that age really. Fuel filter could be blocked etc.
    How's it driving otherwise?

pop the hood in the dark of night and see if there is any arcing on the plug leads while engine is running

Thanks for the help but I've failed my nct something awful and it'll be cheaper to get a new car than fix all the things wrong with it.
