Plastering possible or practical?

I'm in the middle of electrical first fix and have been asked about how I'll finish the ceiling in my garage.

I want to leave the joists (double storey garage) exposed and just plaster around them but I just wonder if this is practical?

It doesn't need to be neat at all but if it's going to be really awkward I'll attach plasterboard and this will eliminate the issue.

Put noggin pieces between the joists at the wall and plaster up to them.

Thanks but what are 'noggin pieces'?

The same as bridging pieces, basically the same depth of timber between the joists. They can act as a ground to plaster up to.

I could be completely wrong here but does anyone know if it ahs to be slabbed and plastered for fire rating if it's a two storey garage?

    Yes it does.

Damn, looks like that's that idea out the window :(

Just to be clear, the ceiling on the ground floor must be slabbed with plasterboard and skimmed?

B, can u post the pics again that u had about this:
AFAIR, the building is a two storey A roofed building, away from the house and the space above ground floor is accessed by either a separate door and stairs or from within the garage.
This might help clarify whats going on/required here.

The pics are still on the first post if you want to see them again.

The garage is as you describe but the first floor is accessed separately via outside steps so there is no access to the first floor via the ground floor.

This pic probably shows what I'm talking about.

You must not imperil anyone using that upper floor.
The floor must be 30 mins fire resistant you cannot expose the timbers.

And the plasterboard plus skim will do this?

good practice will have noggins along the wall to allow sheets be fixed all along the edge, may be a reg, don't know
