In IW's initial review of meter readings it has been publicised in the media/news that Irish Water were writing to customers with regards to suspecting the property of the owner/household and advising them that they may have a leak while kindly offering the first fix (for free), etc...

Can you tell me what triggers such a letter ??

Is it above average use on aggregate for the numbers registered in the house or is it more scientific like the smart meter has noticed that consistently through the night your property is using a trickle of water which may define a leak (leaky tap, pipe, etc....)

In other words is there any differentiation between properties which have high usage (such as those that might spend half hour in the shower, take a bath every day, hose water plants every day, power wash three cars twice a week, or other non desirable non conservation practice) and those that have a leaky tap of perhaps 3 - 4 litres of leakage each day.

    Thanks.

Irish Water are issuing letters to customers where the water meter indicates a leak at their property. The water meter at the customer's property will alert Irish Water if there is a constant flow of water to the property throughout a 48-hour period. This constant flow of water is unusual for an average household and may indicate a leak.

If there is a leak identified on the external supply pipe, Irish Water will offer to repair this leak free of charge, subject to the terms and conditions of the First Fix Scheme.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Allanah
