    Hi there,

I'm confused about the water grant deadline of the 30th June.  Is the water grant a one off?

If I move into a property in July and have to register with Irish Water for the first time, does that mean that I am not eligible for the water grant?

What happens if someone doesn't register by June 30th because they are out of the country and don't realise there is a deadline looming.  Will they be able to apply for the grant retrospectively?

    Thanks.

To be eligible to claim the grant from the Department of Social Protection you must have registered with Irish Water by the 30th of June. Information about the grant was first published in November 2014 and thanks to a prolonged information campaign over 1.3 million households have registered. The deadline has already been extended as the original deadline was back in February.

The grant will be multi annual but is paid once a year. For 2015 it is paid in respect of the property you are living in on the 30th of June 2015. If you have not registered by the 30th of June you will not be eligible to claim the grant in 2015.

Once you have registered with Irish Water, your details will be passed to the Department of Social Protection who will contact all eligible households about registering payment details etc. Payment of the grant will commence in September.

If you have further queries please don't hesitate to ask,

    Kind regards,
    Aaron

I've had this question myself. Does that mean that people who might be moving into a property after June 30th where they are Irish Water bill-payers for the first time won't be eligible?

And how is 'registered' defined? We sent off the application for our apartment that we had just moved in to a month ago but haven't received any acknowledgement yet. Are we considered registered from the date the application is received or we receive an acknowledgement?

This year's Water Conservation Grant is paid with regard to the property you are living in on the 30th of June 2015. If you have not registered with Irish Water by June 30th you will not be eligible to claim the grant in 2015.

The grant will be available to all primary residences that have registered with Irish Water annually until 2018, and will then be reviewed by the Commission for Energy Regulation.

The Department of Social Protection are administering the Water Conservation Grant on behalf of the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. Once you have registered your details with Irish Water, your details will be passed to the Department of Social Protection who will contact you to arrange payment details etc.

I'll take that as an implied yes... ;)
