    Hi all,

Just looking for some info from anyone who may have worked for Penneys. I have been given a summer job with a contract that ends mid sept. I am really hoping if I work well and show how enthusiastic I am they may extend my contract. Has any one ever had this happen or am I likely to be just let go at the end of the contract?

    Thanks

I worked in Penneys on a temp contract and at the end of the contract a number of temps were offered extended contracts based on job performance. You'll get two job reviews with your supervisor during your contract so you'll know how you're doing and what areas you could improve on. If you're efficient, friendly and punctual you should be in with a good chance!

I started in Penneys in April 2013 on a temp contract, and I'm still there! If you get on with what has to be done and get on well/don't cause trouble, you should be fine! Biggest tip I can give you is to keep moving around the shop doing stuff. If you're on tills and there's no customers (usually early morning/late night) do the returns nearby or sort them, or tidy a display close by, they love to see you being proactive and stuff like that. One advantage that you do have is that you've come in at the start of the summer, they'll only be taking more people on in September to cover the Christmas madness, and you have a good chance of being kept on through that too.
In our Penneys, they let temporary staff go after Christmas, and brought them back a week later (dunno what went on there) but there's always a possibility that if you do unfortunately get let go and you were good at what you were doing, they might bring you back when it picks up again
