    Hi

Yesterday I was taking off the alternator on my 03 fiesta and the bolt snapped . I've attached some pictures of what its like.

Heated it, drilled it and tried using both extractors , all have been unsuccessful

Does anyone have anyway I can extract this without preferably damaging the threads.

Here are some photos of it (Sorry they are so big :( ) :

You'd imagine a vice grips on it would turn it. But if not drill it with say a 2mm smaller drill bit than the size of the hole. Then knock it out with a punch/nail ect.

A vicegrips was just sliding on it . I'll have to try the punch/2mm smaller bit tomorrow

Don't punch anything out of a threaded hole and definately not a cast alloy tang like that tab.
Can you drill from the back in the centre of the stub?
You were going the right way with the first hole but its wandered off.
Use some penetrating oil firstly, ATF and acetone or white spirits will creep into the thread and make it easier to back out.

If you go from the back start with a pilot hole and go progressively larger until the hole is nearly the same as the thread size.
Use the shank of a file and tap it in and unscrew it.
If that won't work, go bigger until you can see the threads and then pick the old thread out of the tab.

By saying to use a punch or nail I mean to drill as much of the bolt out as possible. Maybe you could even go to 1 mm smaller than the hole size. And then use the punch to basically crush the remainder of the bolt, towards the center. You could probably even get it (the crushing of the bolt) started using the vice grips.

    Hi lads

Thankfully I got it out today by just drilling a bit more . Then using a flat screwdriver and a hammer I just bait it out . The bolt was cross threaded in,might as well have been welded in it was so tight .

Thanks for all the suggestions (Y)
