Flying on a passport in it's final six months

Has anyone ever travelled on a passport in it's final six months?
I was planning on travelling from Canada to Ireland in September for a wedding and my passport would be into it's final six months by a week at the time of travelling and it takes 12/13 weeks to get it renewed from here so probably wouldn't get a new one in time.

I know it normally comes down to the airline and not the country, I've contacted the airlines but still waiting to here back.

I don't know about Canada but it certainly isn't an issue for the US. It's typically only an issue when travelling to certain Gulf and Asian countries. I flew to the US with an Irish passport that had less than two months on it and nobody passed any remarks on it, neither Aer Lingus or US immigration.

If it comes down to the airline, that's because they have the expense of taking you back if you're refused entry so in that sense they act as an immigration 'front line' when checking your passport at check-in time but the actual rules are set by the country you're travelling to.

It's not clear what passport you're travelling on, I suspect you have an Irish passport so all I'd say is that there is no way you will be refused entry to your home country just because there's less than 6 months left on your passport. Even if you arrived here with an expired Irish passport I suspect that they can't refuse you entry though you would probably have a problem getting a boarding card at your departure airport.

    Thanks.

Yeah Irish passport. I'm legally allowed in both countries Irish citizen and permanent resident in Canada so I'm not going to land and stay illegally if I stay until after my passport expires.

Aer Lingus only mention six months if travelling to Turkey so I think I'll be ok, no restrictions under Canada.
