    What's a CSU?

hi, I believe it is the central systems unit, ? Basically the computer processing unit is not responding.

Ah ok, it is more commonly called a BCM (Body Control Module) or CECM (Central Electric Control Module)

Who did the diagnosis? Was it a main dealer?

When you switch on the ignition what happens? Have you got any ignition lights?

I have seen a few faulty BCMs in these Golfs but usually it is down to someone damaging them while working on some part of the car's electrical system. I never saw one just fail and cause the car to stop on the road.

yes , I had it towed to a main dealer who eventually diagnosed the problem.
ignition lights came on, car would not start, the error message appeared "error process unit? or something like that.
No one had been working on the car since it's service Jan 14,

not yet, the unit had to be ordered , I should know by tomorrow, It just seems to be a very serious problem for a 3 year old car. Just interested to hear if any one else had similar problems

I know this is not what you want to hear but you could have saved a lot of money by getting a secondhand unit fitted by an independent garage.

Let us know the eventual outcome anyway.

Your right, I didn't want to hear that, I have got an estiimate from them, and it is quite a lot. I didn't have much option really as I had no access to anywhere else at the time. I feel it is a major fault in the car from manufacture and I shouldn't have to be paying anything. Thanks for your comments,

Yeah I'd be writing a strongly worded letter. Or two.
It might be a side issue (or maybe not) but VW Ireland are known for bad warranty and not honouring recalls in other countries. Sure look at lads going up north for recall work.

VW ireland, tell them your tale of woe, your FSH with VW and the dealership where the car is currently. and their findings. Ask for contribtution towards the cost of an item which should not conceivably fail inside 3 years.
Look into any other cases of this happening in UK or US, they are the exact same car.

Not sure you will have success, but wouldn't it be great to report back in a week or 2 with something to show for a few minutes of your time?
    Good luck

"Thank you for your email dated 12th July for the attention of Mr Lars Himmer. As your concern is a customer care matter I am responding to your recent correspondence.

Firstly , we apologise for any inconvenience caused to you during your recent breakdown of your 2012 Golf TSI 1.2.

Your vehicle came with a 2 year European warranty from the first date of registration. Once outside of this warranty period Volkswagen offer a goodwill policy through our dealer network. As you mentioned in your email MSL did offer a goodwill gesture to you in relation to the cost of repair. Should you wish to discuss the goodwill offer made to you we can only recommend you speak with MSL directly on this matter.

The new ECU installed in your vehicle will be have the Volkswagen Genuine Parts 2 year warranty. Meaning that in the unlikely event of a failure or defect, the offending part will be replaced free-of-charge.

Should you wish to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me again."

    Hi All,
just thought I would update you all on the VW GOLF saga, Hopefully no one else has to go through this unbelievable service. I addressed my concerns to the CEO of VW IRELAND, !!!! .

Thanks to everyone for your concern and support.
