I am currently living in London but I am planning on moving home at christmas.

I am planning on shipping 3 large items, 2 37" L.E.D TVs and a large computer tower.

I have checked some services in London, DHL etc, but these are quite expensive and seem to be catered towards people needing their items delivered as soon as possible. I don't mind my items being delivers up to 4 weeks after sending.

Has anyone had any experience with this and can offer a cheaper solution? It was going to work out around £300 for all three items.

You'd be looking at pallet size delivery I'd say

Rent a car, drive to Holyhead and get the ferry over.

I'd second this in this case. The items you intend to ship are extremely fragile. Not sure I'd trust a third party with them.

What about if I heavily padded them also? Still a big risk?

How much do you value your 2 TV's and your PC tower?? If they got damaged, could you live with the fact they were just heavily padded??

True, I was just hoping for an easier solution. We have considerred renting a car but did't want the hassle of the drive.

One single pixel blown in a tv screen will ruin the viewing experience. Unless you have the original boxes and all the packing I really wouldn't risk it. A specialist courier/mover will have the skill and insurance but you don't want to pay the premium that that incurs so self transport is the next safest.

Alot of companies won't take the tv due to potential damage. Also they will need to be professionally packed to be covered by insurance.

Not a consumer issue, thread moved to Accommodation & Property.

It's almost never cost effective to ship a TV overseas unless being brought by house movers. Sell and rebuy if needed.

Check with the hire company first though if you can take a car/van from Britain to Ireland.

I used shiply.com for bringing over a furniture from UK two years ago. Found them to be good, you get free quotes and can choose between couriers.
