Local man gets me to do bits of rough topping for him. It's usually wet bottoms that's a rough as hell. Stones everywhere and rushes 4 or 5 ft tall. No lie. Using 35 and pz so no big cost but he only gets me cos no one else would do it. What sort of money would ya charge per hour or acre?

Charge by the hour, if it's crap heavy and ground bad you have to take your time and that's not your fault.

Haven't a clue how much, maybe €20/hour (10 for you and 10 for the machine)

If it requires repeated toppings- surely the better course of action is to go down a different road (spend a little on improving drainage, get rid of rushes- roundup if need be, reseed and take ongoing care)?

Even 20 an hour for topping- isn't a reflection of the effort and machine costs associated with the job. I'd argue for a higher amount- though in cases where repeated toppings are necessary- normally money/cashflow is the reason a proper course of action hasn't been taken. Is he supplying the machinery- or are you expected to as well? 30 an hour if you're supplying the machinery etc- 15 if not?

Used to do this for a lad locally that had ground similar to that. Got paid the 1st and 2nd year and third year it didn't work out so nice. Broken mower and no pay whatsoever. Be careful. Take your time and charge by the hour as the folks above mentioned.

Yeah it's my tractor and mower. Ground is a rough as hell. Mower keeps springing out behind me. In all fairness he does get it sprayed when I've it topped and then keeps it topped and grazed

It would depend on number of acres he puts you to the trouble of topping.
If very bad ground I'd personally be slow to go at it if you value your machine.
Small acerage I'd say 25-30 hour
