We need an immersion replacement and are advised to upgrade our hot water cylinder at the same time. Just wondering what a decent quote would be for each part - how much for the immersion replacement and how much for the new hot water cylinder. Including installation etc, Dublin area.

    Thanks :)

If anyone had any recommendations for plumber/electrician they might PM, thanks!

I suspect the suggestion is because it can be tricky to get the old one out...
There is absolutely no need to replace the cylinder unless there are other issues with it.
    How old is cylinder

To supply and fit an immersion expect anything from €110-€140
To supply and fit a factory insulated cylinder its in the €350-€420 region

Maybe so. Id say it's as old as the house - fifteen years or so.

Newer cylinders have better insulation on them. That's about it.

Just to clarify for op. If you get the new cylinder & you pay €350 to €420 this will include a new element fitted with the new cylinder.

Yeah think we're happy to upgrade for that reason if it's a decent quote.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback - gives a good idea of whether a quote is reasonable or not.

Make sure the new cylinder is A rated insulation
