And don't get a fill in job in McD as you will then not be unemployed and eligible for jobbridge. There are people out there with Masters degrees who can't get internships and have 'no experience'. It is the most stupid set up.

You should look at charities that could use a social media person to promote their charity or even look into events such as arts or cultural events that could use assistants.

May be also worthwhile that self-teach yourself a few things, marketing can be very broad area and it may be worthwhile to attempt to specialise in a certain area suck as social media, events or even digital just as examples.

    Best of luck..

Yes, I have noticed that alot of jobs that I would have deemed as suitable for entry position jobs were only available through jobbridge which is annoying for me but of course it suits employers because the job is done for less pay.

I have looked into voluntary work but most employers don't see it as being relevant to work experience on a CV but thanks for your input.

The main thing is you are getting interviews just a matter of getting beyond that hurdle. That's where I fall down, I can help others get a job but can't seem to help myself get one which is the odd thing! Maybe its just a case you need to brush up on interview techniques and do mock interviews. A job coach is useful, professional ones or recruitment agent ones are ten times better than ones from the likes of Fas/Solas they are useless based on my experience! I think its better in the long run to apply to jobs yourself and directly to businesses than through an agency depending on the roles you are applying for. Is it mainly graduate jobs you applying for?

Have they mentioned about voluntary work seen as irrelevant work-experience in an interview or when getting feedback after application/interview? The only thing is i'd say is when I have done interviews they rarely asked me questions in relation to voluntary work experience, unless I bring it up myself. They ask about the paid or recent work-experience but its mostly been to do with college or college projects that i've given as examples. Whether or not its interviewers aren't happy with my examples which often is the case, they really look for 'teamwork' skills, 'problem solving' skills, 'dealing with customers' seem to be the key areas they focus on as well as transferable skills, communication skills, IT skills and competency type things. They often ask a question regarding a dilemma/scenario or a general competency type question. Sometimes they ask questions that can be difficult to give an answer to or one that they look for in a model answer. It can be hard to figure out what they are actually looking for. Be honest as much as possible and give an educated guess. What type of questions are they asking you? Marketing terms, you do a presentation on a topic or general CV/competency/Marketing scenario type questions or the latest things going on in Marketing sector? Morgan McKingley are good with interview tips if you look at their website they are handy.

Most of my work-experience is in the voluntary sector and unpaid work. Looking into a similar discipline as you OP. I've applied to paid internships with not much luck. I try to limit the amount of unpaid/jobbridge internships I apply for those nearer locations to me and stick with local or same county ones. Its pointless having to move for a jobbridge unless is going to be valuable on a CV and for employers. I tend to just go for interviews that I know i'd have some chance of getting the job. I find I know before I even go in and by the time I leave how I do. I've a six sense about them but even when I felt I did well it could be still 50/50 if I be successful or not. Very rarely have I felt that I had a job in the bag or thought I almost had when they say 'i've got potential' but that's all I get. I ask for feedback but don't always get it some do it as part of their recruitment policy.

Some people are just luckier than others. There is a lot to be said for paid employment but its proving fruitless just to get your foot in the door and there is me thinking the unemployment rate is dropping!? I beg to differ why that is the case?!

I'd suggest to try a jobbridge which can only go so far. One or two max anything more is a waste of time. If at all possible go for a paid internship or paying contract. I've had mixed info whether to go for a basic marketing role in a small business with no marketing department is any more beneficial than a marketing role in a slightly bigger business that has a marketing department. I've worked in an area where they hadn't a marketing department but there is a lot to be said for a business having their own section for it. It means you have less to do or more to do or you be the one trying to put things together yourself with little help.

Its hard to know, you have to start somewhere. Have you tried the IT's or Uni's, credit unions, banks, shops if they looking for someone? The gradireland website is good for that sort of jobs being advertised as well. Do you research businesses thoroughly though some companies have a good rep others do not when it comes to how they treat staff. Be wary of companies that have a fast turn over of staff.

Also if you have skills with online marketing I'd suggest to have a portfolio of projects done if at all possible. Having examples with the STAR approach is a great way of showing off your skills in an interview. Looking into the CV and interview techniques is key and all about selling yourself. Competition is tough as it is its an employers market. Have you gone to a recruitment agent who could help you with interview skills or someone who could help you with it? Practice is important as well. Have you asked for feedback from interviews? Weigh all that up and can be a good help.

Best of luck with your job hunt!

Thanks very much.I have done mock interview before each one & have also gotten interview info from "glass door" beforehand from people that have attended for interview so I have prepared in advance with questions likely to come up.Alot of places have policy of not giving feedback & the only reason I have been given is lack of experience - which is a laugh as I cannot get experience without someone taking a chance ! I think my age (18) may also be against me as i see a lot of people 30+ going for the same jobs. Thanks for all your help & in will take it all on board.
