I was let go from work a few weeks back, and have been dealing with my local SW office since to get my job seekers allowance. I just got offered a job, with a start date of 1 day before my allotted sign on date. As I've been off work for a few weeks with nothing coming in but have still been paying rent, bills etc. I could really do with the money for the last while!
Does anyone know what happens in this situation? If I can't actually sign on do I have any way of getting the back weeks?

If your claim is allowed, you will be payed from the date you signed on till the day you sign off.

Best of luck with the new job. Yes you will be entitled to the weeks since you signed on. Though since your job starts one day before you sign on you should call your local social welfare office and explain this to them.

You should have went to the CWO since signing on
Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) is a weekly payment for people that have insufficient means or no income. For example, SWA can be paid to you while the Department of Social Protection is processing your claim for another payment.
