Where to ride from Riva del Garda?

    Hey all,
    Off on my holidays to Riva del Garda this weekend. I know it's famous as an MTB Mecca. I plan to give that a go while there, but I also want to rent a road bike and find somewhere nice to head off to for the day. However, I don't want to just ride around the lake. Ideally I'd like to find a nice mountain road with lots of switchbacks/hairpins like you see on tv but never get here. Any recommendations would be really appreciated. 4 to 6 hour ride time would be ideal. Thanks.

    Monte Baldo on the eastern side, I did it from the south a few years back. Try and get decent gearing on the rental if you can - when I got to what I thought was the top, as I was recovering I looked left and saw another road with a 19% ! triangle at the bottom. After a few minutes consideration, I decided I had to do it, forgetting I was on 39x25.

    There are a number close enough to the North of Riva eg. - up to Arco (where Franceso Moser has a bike shop) and then start the climb of Santa Barbara or generally head over towards Monte Bondone where there are a lot of narrow twisty backroads.

    Using the Segment Explore function on Strava will show up a lot of the cycleable climbs in the area


    Its worth noting that the main road off the autostrada from Rovereto to Riva is very busy and not overly pleasant to cycle. Also, traffic around the lake can be very fast - especially on weekend mornings (particularly Sunday) when the big motos like to ride round the lake like it was a qualifying lap.
