Recently booked a flight to JFK. Aerlingus give you the option to add hire car to the booking. Don't, Book directly with the hire company. I just saved 90 euro doing so. Seems Aerlingus are adding approx 90 ish euro for the privalige

Sometimes the rates are cheaper, sometimes dearer. This is the case with pretty much all combined flight and car hire bookings I've ever encountered.

As in most fields of life, it's always sensible to check around and not assume that you're getting best deal.
