Seat Ibiza or Cordoba as a first car?

From around 2002-2005. Thoughts especially as a learner driver/first car?

I'm on the hunt to buy my very first car and these two models in particular have caught my eye, but I'd like to hear what you guys think before pursuing anything.

They are both the same car, the Cordoba just being a saloon version of the Ibiza. They both share lots of parts with the VW Polo and Skoda Fabia. 1.2 litre engine is sluggish and rough as a slapped arse.

Personally I'd rather a 2003 onwards Ford Fiesta, 1.25 litre engine is really good and they are nice to drive.

Both are just okay. I test drove a Seat Cordoba 1.4tdi and there wasnt anything about it that I was really happy about. Nothing wrong with it but I felt that I could get a much nicer car than it for the same price.

As bazz26 said, the Ford Fiesta would be one to consider. A lot of my friends have them as first cars and they really like them. Cheap tax (as its a 1.25) and cheap insurance.

Curious, what is it about a Fiesta that sells it for you as a good first car? Or what sets it apart from an Ibiza for example?

The 1.2 litre engine in the Ibiza/Cordoba is a 3 cylinder engine which is noisy, and under powered (only has about 50 or 60 bhp). The Fiesta 1.25 litre on the other hand is more powerful, more refined, feels nicer to drive and I'd also say build quality is better too. My sister has a 08 Fiesta for the last five years and has never had any trouble with it.
