    Hi
I am currently talking over teh farm from my father and he has being doing Steer cattle fo rteh last few years, not high numbers around 30 bullocks every year. They are bought in at 1.5yrs and finished to teh marts.
recently i have been looking at my options and see that Heifers are making great money at the moment.
Anyone any experience in finishing Heifers?
I may move entirely to finishing Heifers as they finish easier and faster.

I am at it in a small way also, only in the last few years.

A few things to consider, they are not major things, but they just need to be borne in mind:
*You need to have right good boundary fences in place as you don't want them proving in calf to neighbours bull!
*They will have to be blood tested to sell in mart once they go over 24mths.

Heifers will give you more options and markets, they also don't need to be castrated on purchase!

i often wondered the same, We're doing similar operation as yours (buying 1.5 to finishing, about 85 bullocks). Used to sent to factories but over last few years getting better return from Marts as mostly fresians and the rest AA or HE.

Thinking about just getting 10 Heifers in Autumn as a trial run.
