This has just gone on sale in the UK. Seems to be adequate enough according to this review.

    http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/ford/mondeo-hatchback/2015-ford-mondeo-10-ecoboost-uk-review/1351162

With CO2 emissions of 119 g/km, motor tax will be €200 a year, compared to to €180 for either of the diesels. Could be worth a look at for low mileage motorists in Ireland if Ford price it right?

I do have my doubts about the claimed fuel economy, I bet in the real world it will do no more than 40 mpg (I also bet in the real world the 1.5 Ecoboost petrol is more frugal), about the same as a naturally aspirated 1.8 petrol from 10 years ago would have done, but it's still probably worth a look at for those not doing a lot of driving and don't need or want a diesel.

Totally pointless in a car that size. Real world usage it's not going to be much cheaper than the 1.5

I honestly think that around town it will probably be worse then the older 1.8 you mentioned OP. I can see it been superior on the motorway assuming that the petrols have a 6 speed box though.

I am having trouble taking a liking to its looks, I think the mk4 is better looking exterior wise, especially in titanium specs.

However one thing I will hand to Ford is that they have some balls putting a 1.0 3 cylinder into a car of its size. I even remember people's reactions to when they announced that they were putting it into the Focus and even then it would be unheard of putting it into the Mondeo.

And the 1.4 Octavia isn't that long ago....

My Dad has the 1.0 Ecoboost in a Focus, it's perfectly adequate in that car if a little rough sounding. I'm not sure which version he has, probably around 100bhp, it is a lot better than the 1.6 na petrol the was in the last Focus he had.

A three-cylinder, 1l engine in a car weighing in at a ton-and-a-half? Well fair play to them if they can pull it off, but like many I'm sceptical about real-world fuel consumption, and that engine will need to be properly strong in order to go the distance. As a (mildly) interesting aside, the specific output of 123BHP/l is where litre supersports bikes were about ten years ago.

Dont see why these engines wont do the job in a reliable efficient way tbh. Would be more concerned about the drive being a lttle tedious but that wont bother most buyers id imagine.

I'd have to agree to be honest. It has adequate power for most, the engine has been going for a couple of years now and, at least as far as I know, there's been nothing catastrophic wrong with them. I can see them not being as fuel efficient as their diesel counterpart but I can't see it being a million miles away either!

Well I'm pretty sure most petrol cars will be going this way. Smaller engine with a turbo. It's like the diesel boom over the last couple of years with diesel engines being over-engineered.

How many of them cars will be on the road in 20 years time though?
    Probably very few.

The same can be said for modern diesel engines which have heaps of electrics and parts for emissions and other stuff.

I reckon it will be hard to get these parts years down the road.

How many 1995 Mondeos are on the road today? Same answer. Was probably asked by 1975 Cortina drivers back then.

I'd say there's a damn side more mid 90's cars still on the road than there will be of these.
I drive a mid 90's ford meself actually

Thats made me feel old :o

Personal preference to me but I don't like engines that small in a car that big.

Dont think the 1l mondeo is being brought into this country unless things have changed in the last few months.
