    At a very early push i would say it is a Hedychium sp. Maybe that. Is to early to tell. Us a member of ginger family and some are very fragrant.

    I'd say TAZ is right. It could be an actual ginger plant too that was put in a pot at some stage. Looks like it sprouted last year too. Any story behind it?

    It does look like a ginger plant - even ordinary kitchen ginger will grow in a pot, I've done it often.

    Many grasslike plants have that "unfurling" stem habit
