Agree with Muthmir for sure. Going to be on his side all season until Im proven wrong about him being top drawer, although I've been very wrong with sprinters before...

Quite surprised by the general lack of appreciation of what Mecca's Angel achieved over in France last time out, while it was not a top, top class field, she was still a 3yo filly giving weight to older and more established Group class horses and they didn't see which way she went as she showed some serious pace throughout the race.

Firmer ground tomorrow a bit of an unknown, but connections have gone from sounding quite cautious about risking her on lively ground to sounding very bullish.

Won't back anything until I get some time to really look at things this evening but she's likely to be my main bet of the day.

I agree with you to a certain extent. If the ground was soft she would be a Max EW bet, but this is a lot deeper then she has been in before.

Just pulled the trigger on this: 3pts Win @ 8/1 with BFS.

Might go in again with another couple of points tomorrow morning depending on my disposition but wanted to get the 8s while it's there.

I like Night of Thunder at 5/1 in the first, he will come on for his first run remember how he progessed from the Greenham to the Guineas last year. Straight mile will suit him perfectly. I have my doubts over Able Friend coping with the travelling, he has been on the go since autumn and this will be very different from running around sha tin. Solow is obviously the one to beat as he is improving all the time but his form isn't miles ahead of NoT. Money back as a free bet if 2nd or 3rd

Just the two bets for me going into tomorrow and it's Round Two in the 15:05 (meant to be a bit of a beast) and Gleneagles in the 16:20 (was very impressed with his Guineas run).

If I head down to Paddy Power tomorrow morning I probably will have a few euro on Solow in the first just to hopefully build up the piggy bank with the assurance of their money back offer.

I try to avoid bookies' ridiculous sign up offers where they boost the odds and pay out in free bets, but I've just set up a Coral account as their offering Gleneagles @ 7/1 with the winnings paid in cash that can be withdrawn instantly. Nice way to boost the piggy bank before day two.

Sole Power for me, ground is perfect as is trip. Local bookie is doing 5er matched bet.

Solow in the first with Paddy's money back special

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

    Ascot

2.30: Like a good few I've backed Solow with the PP special. I know The Grey Gatsby was over the wrong trip in Dubai and well beaten since but I was massively impressed with Solows performance that night. The stiff mile of Ascot takes getting and its a world away from the sharp track of Sha Tin. The ground won't be as firm as it is out there for Able Friend either and I think as long as Guyon kicks for home early Solow wins. NOT to follow him home.

3.05: An impossible race to call really with likes of Round Two, Air Force Blue and Finnegan totally unexposed. Not a race for a single bet but given Bolger's bullishness (rarely calls it wrong) and the fact that there's an unexpected 5/2 available now, will chance in a small win treble.

3.40: Have backed the one and only Sole Power at 9/2 and will be putting him in mentioned Treble. There's dangers all over in this race. I'm a massive fan of Muthmir and while I've no doubt he's classy enough to go close I couldn't be backing him a only 1pt bigger than a animal whos been there and done it, twice. Mecca's Angel has to be respected also but quick ground is a negative while the Aussie Shamal Wind is an unknown. Nevertheless, we've been here before and backing the champ with ground, jockey, race setup to suit is a no brainer IMO.

4.20: Unlikely all the favs will win and Gleneagles IMO is the most vulnerable. Make Believes French Guineas winning form has been well boosted by New Bay in their Derby so no bet race for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭sdoc13

Backed Sole Power last night at 4s as jim says above a no brainer for me. 4pts win.

Think I will back solow with the skybet special. Money back if loses.

Have followed aidan in the 17 00.

I went for a little multi line tricast on Betfair, which came off for me last year. Sole Power/Muthmir/Stepper Point/Jack Dexter.

I'm fairly sure Toormore beats Night of Thunder today, whatever good that does in in this race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 CatMalojinBlog

Well Gleneagles should hack up really, but overall I think this is one of AOB's weakest stables in a long time. Still though, the season is early, and he's won a fair few of the classics, so its all relative I guess!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭brassringclub

Solow wins despite how he was ridden? Can't have suited one with a turn of foot like he has. Much the best horse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,028 ✭✭✭TheMilkyPirate

This Gleneagles is up with the best horses AOB has ever had. He is crying out for a step up in trip too imo.

I know where you're coming from but he's got a lovely turn of foot for a mile as well so can't see them stepping up. Just looks an all round top class horse.

More stud value if they step him up. I would fancy him to beat Golden Horn. That was comfortable for him today hands and heels job.

I know the French horse flopped but on that firm ground Gleneagles travels with such ease and given how how he puts races to bed, I'm starting to think he'll do that regardless of opposition. Was also taken with Moore's words on him.

Like Areen 14/1 in next. Green as you like lto against the impressive King of Rooks with Buratino only a few lengths ahead of him. Can't be having the 10pt difference in price between him and the fav Steady Pace.
