Hitch too close to bumper

As the title suggests, the hitch on my Kia Sorento is too close to the bumper - when I hitch my trailer to it, I end up taking chunks out of the paintwork.

I bought a plate to fit onto it that should protect it, however I feel like it probably needs to be extended (Is that possible) so it comes out a bit further from the bumper.

Is this something a mechanic can do? Am not too experienced in this area so appreciate the advice.

I had the same problem years ago. Bought a 1 inch spacer and extra long bolts from motor factors that dealt in trailers and towing brackets.

Oh brilliant! I wouldn't be able to do it myself, would definitely be too nervous to give it a go! Would a mechanic be able to fit it?

A mechanic will definitely be able to fit it.
If you ring around you might get someone who has spacers already and all you need to do is drive over to get it done.
    I don't know cost.
